What Do You Seek in Following Jesus?

Our Senior Pastor Chris Barksdale in his challenge to Bethesda Baptist Church, our sending church, on August 30, used John 1:35-51 as his text. His message really stood out as he reminded us that God is not passive but active as He constantly pursues the people He created. He asked three questions as he talked about Proclaiming Christ in his message “Jesus is God on Mission.”

1What do you seek in following Jesus?
People will follow Jesus but not really follow Jesus for who He is. John and Andrew sought Jesus and they followed Him.

Do you want Jesus to fix your problems or do you want Jesus for Jesus’ sake?
Sometimes people want something Jesus could do for them like a free meal, or to feel better about themselves, etc. But, if Jesus is not your treasure, then He is not your Savior.

Quoting John Piper- “If you could have heaven with no sickness, all the friends you had on earth, all the foods you liked and all the leisure activities you ever enjoyed, and all the natural beauty you ever saw, all the physical pleasures you ever tasted, with no human conflict or any natural disasters, could you be satisfied with heaven if Jesus wasn’t there?”

Great questions to ask ourselves and those around us.

News from home:
The past 2 years God has allowed us to train new Awana leaders at Bethesda. We will also be training new leaders in Papua New Guinea and this was great experience for us. Thank you Harry Howe, our Awana Commander!

This past month, we presented our ministry at two wonderful churches-Lewis Memorial Baptist Church in West Virginia and Mamre Baptist Church in Ohio. God greatly blessed us with many new friendships and much encouragement!

News from PNG:
The drought in Papua New Guinea has now turned to famine as people’s gardens have dried up. The water was tested and has very high levels of dangerous E. coli. Parents are feeding their children while they themselves go to bed hungry. Our teammates have bought 1 ton of rice and a tanker of clean water to help feed over 800 people as they provided drought relief and shared the love of Christ. Please pray for daily rains and for continued opportunities to share Christ through these tough times.

Prayer request:
We are praying for $268 in new monthly support by October 26 to be able to attend Field Prep training at ABWE in November. This will also keep us on track to leave for Papua New Guinea in January.

Thank you for continuing to pray for us and for many who support us financially! We know God is able! You are truly a blessing to us. Please let us know how we can pray for you!
